Artist's Statement
“Art and music are to my soul, as food and water are to my body. I believe that art and music are two of God's most precious gifts to His children. As the author, and giver of creativity, through these gifts He has given us a portion of Himself. He created the very first canvas, magnificently painted it, and brought it to life.”
Kimberly Conrad studied music in college, and from there she went on to write and perform. Though she has always been involved in some form of art or design, the road to fine art began for her in 1991, when she received private instruction in a Nevada studio, painting primarily on metal and wood. She continued in these endeavors while raising four wonderful sons with her husband. After many years of moving around as a Navy, then as an airline wife, Kimberly and her family finally settled in Colorado. In 1998, Kimberly opened the Conrad School of Music, a private studio in her home that offers music instruction.
In 2000, art was incorporated into the program and the title was changed to Conrad School of the Arts. The art program has enjoyed such great success, that—as of 2007—the music was put on hold, and Conrad School of Art now offers art instruction exclusively.
Though primarily self-taught, Kimberly continues to study voraciously. She has worked with watercolor, oil pastel, and acrylic, but after studying for a year under Colorado artist Susan Jean, she now works primarily in oil; the palette knife — her tool of choice. Refusing to attach herself to any particular catagory of art, she loves abstract, impressionism, expressionism, folk, fauvism, and anything that allows her to use a knife and lots of paint.
With one son off at college, and the other three teenagers, Kimberly is finding more time to do what she loves best: paint and compose. She is a full-time artist dividing her time between painting, and teaching in her Colorado studio. Her work is sold through art shows, and her studio gallery, as well as through her website, blog site, and occasionally through eBay.
